Biochemistry and Genetics Symposium – celebrating 50 years of scientific research and teaching
A one-day symposium and dinner to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Department of Biochemistry and Genetics at La Trobe University.
The event will celebrate the University and the lives nurtured and careers forged over the past 50 years.
The symposium will feature speakers from each of the past five decades – a mix of former and current students and staff.
The Biochemistry and Genetics Symposium was held on Wednesday, 19 July 2017. Guests were welcomed by Professor Robert Pike, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the College of Science, Health, and Engineering while former Chancellor, Emeritus Professor Adrienne Clarke opened the symposium. Talks throughout the day spanned five decades of science at La Trobe from foundation departments to recent discoveries. “The talks confirmed that the culture of excellence instilled here 50 years ago is alive and well today,” said symposium chair, Dr Kaye Truscott. “The reunion dinner, attended by former and current staff and students, partners and friends, capped off what was a truly inspiring and memorable day.”
